Positive Therapy

What is positive therapy?

We focus on positive aspects of a person’s life and the understanding we can all learn to heal ourselves with positive thoughts, goals, and hope. This explanation comes from Positive Psychology website.

According to PositivePsychology.com

Positive Psychotherapy (PPT) is a relatively new therapeutic approach, influenced by both the humanistic and psychodynamic approaches towards diagnosis and treatment. Its core focus is on moving away from what’s ‘wrong’ or the negative aspects of an individual, and instead move towards what’s good and positive.

Seligman, Rashid, and Parks (2006) offer the following definition for PPT concerning depression:

Positive psychotherapy (PPT) contrasts with standard interventions for depression by increasing positive emotion, engagement, and meaning rather than directly targeting depressive symptoms.

PPT often uses a range of interdisciplinary approaches of psychotherapy, including the use of multicultural stories, ideas, and metaphors to help individuals create a new view of their mental health in positive ways. Therapists using PPT often invite the individual to place themselves in the stories used, so they become active in their healing process in an empowered way, and in so doing, become the ‘therapist’ of their own recovery.

While the emphasis is on positivity and positive outcomes, the overall theory of PPT also asserts that three core principles need to be addressed to allow this to happen:

1.Principal of Hope

2.Principle of Balance

3. Principal of Consultation

                1.observation

                2. inventory

                3. situational support

                4. verbalization

                5. development of goals

Look to the sky and know where your help comes from… It comes from the Lord is who always with you. He will lead you, comfort you, and show you the way.

If you do not believe in God you may believe in a higher power who is there for you at all times. I would encourage you to look up and admire the creation of this world. When frustrated lookup and see how all things work together: sometime we have storms, but some times we have quiet. In both, we can find peace. Life is hard, not always fair; however, is we can stop and breath we may find our path for the situation we are in.
It’s the little things can encourage us or break us. The little things are what usually has me fall apart. When I can stop, I find a newness and can continue to go forward.
